Getting licensed by endorsement

  1. Apply for RN licensure by endorsement with the New York board of nursing. Apply as soon as you're considering New York: many recruiters want the license, or at least the application, before they submit you.
  2. Verify your current license through Nursys (or your original board if it doesn't use Nursys).
  3. Complete any background questions on the application.
  4. Wait for the full license before your start date: there's no temporary permit for endorsement.
  5. Ask your agency whether it reimburses the license and fingerprint fees. Many do, but often only once you've started a contract.
